Political Science major April Cannon is the new Miss Shaw University. Cannon was crowned Thursday, October 9th in the Spaulding gymnasium.
Sharece Crawford, Melissa Gunter,Gena Harris and Debbie Norris made up the five contestants who participated in the pageant.
According to pageant officials, Cannon is a senior with many accomplishments including maintaining a 3.9 GPA. Cannon says she plans to attend law school following graduation.
“Words can not express how I am feeling right now,” said Cannon as she wiped away her tears.
Harris was awarded first contender and Miss Congeniality. Crawford was named second contender. Pageant officials say there was fierce competition. The contestants had to complete a portfolio, interviews with the judges and display talent.
The portfolio was worth 45 points. The interview was worth 20 points. The pageant was worth 35 points, totaling a possible of 100 points.
